Into Victoria

Into Victoria-Sunday

Left Canberra all rugged up against the cold to get back down to the coast to lovely sunny warm weather and had to peel off half of the riding gear. Traveled mainly down the coast from Batemans Bay to Bermagui where we stopped for some lunch and chatted to a couple from Melbourne who were very helpful with information about where we were going.

Australia's only seaside goldfield is situated 7km north of Bermagui on the Wallaga Lake Road. It is a virtually intact remnant of the gold rush days of the early 1880's and the only goldfield in Australia located by the seaside.

Carried on down the Princess Highway which headed through a coastal route through Tathra, Merimbula and Pambula. Merimbula is the tourist hub of the Saphire Coast with lakeside restaurants and cafes, great shopping and a vast array of attractions and accommodation choices. Too early in the day for us to stop here.

From Eden we headed inland through Genoa and stopping at last at Cann River just on dark. Eden's Local Aboriginal people had a strong connection with killer whales, and this included harvesting of small whales and fish that killer whales herded into shallows. New South Wales into Victoria.
