Tennant Creek to Alice Springs

Its been a very sobering day on the road today. We came upon a serious accident where two people were fatally injured. The first person on the scene was a cyclist who had just come over a railway bridge and just saw a huge dust cloud come up the second person had a satellite phone and was also a medic, when we arrived the police and ambulance had arrived but the woman had died instantly and the man later died at the scene. Apparently they had a blow out and the car had rolled end over end by the looks.

Our day had started out where we couldn't pay for our motel because all the phone systems were out in the whole area since the night before. We can sort that out on our way back through in a couple of days. Then we come to when we needed to fill with petrol and their eftpos was out too. A young couple who were traveling in a van offered us some cash so we could get to Alice springs which was very kind of them. I went and asked if they would take a credit card number and the woman remembered they had a manual eftpos machine, funny she didn't think of that in the first place. Rule, carry some cash, we did have some but had had to use it the night before for dinner. We think that the fibre optic cable had been cuty the road workers putting in a truck park on the side of the road, and the Telstra man had been up since midnight coming from Alice Springs looking for the problem.

Just before we had our long stop at the accident we had gone into look at The Devils Marbles which is an area of massive round rocks, pretty amazing place.

Got to really admire that cyclist, he has cycled 15,000km not sure if that is all in Australia but we have come across a few other cyclists in really remote places, like coming across the Nullarbor.

Well have now arrived in Alice springs and have now done 15,200. Stopped off at the Kawasaki Shop to get a new light bulb for my bike, and they gave us the wrong one. But everyone says how bad it is in Alice Springs. Lots of business are closing and people are leaving. The young aboriginals apparently drink and rampage the town at night, definitely don't go walking around. We can have dinner at the Hotel and have tied our bikes up on the balcony of our room.
