Mt Surprise

Todays route from Karumba was along the Gulf Developmental Highway, once again about 100 kilometres of one lane bitumen road which is great when you the only one on it, and get off fast if a road trains comes.  Encountered cattle wandering across the road, a lizard sunbathing on the road, a kangaroo sitting atop the crest of a hill then just wandered off.

Stopped in Georgetown and visited TerrEstrial which is The Ted Elliot Mineral Collection which was a private collection of 4,500 minerals, gemstones and fossils.  Georgetown's goldfield still yield gold nuggets and semi precious stones like garnet, quartz, topaz, aquamarine, sapphires and some others. The area was know as the "Poor man's Goldfield" because gold nuggets could be picked up from the ground without the need for expensive equipment.

Have stopped for the night at Bedrock Village in Mt Surprise.
