Over the Border

Well today we have crossed from Northern Territory into Queensland.  Left Three Ways Roadhouse on the Barkey Highway a fairly uninteresting straight road.  Although it was interesting to note how green everything is.  It is really only the beginning of the dry season.  Filled up again at Cammoweal where we had just come across the border from the Northern Territory.  Next Stop was Mt Isa.

Really good road between Mt Isa and Clonurry, it has corners and hills, rocky rubbly hills, eucalyptus in flower, acacia's in flower, very nice road even though the speed limit has slowed down from 130km to 100km on this section.  The speed limited in the Northern Territory is 130km and on the open highways in Queensland and other states it is 110km.

Mt Isa is one of the  most productive single mines in world history, based on combined production of lead, silver, copper and zinc

Then we headed on the Burke Development Road to hopefully stop at a Road house further up the way only to find it had closed down.  Here we go again, riding in the dark, it was either turn around and go back to Cloncurry, well no option really it was too far to the next place.  The kangaroos are bigger here than in the Northern Territory where they seemed to be mostly quite small things like the wallabies we see at home.  Got into Cloncurry and went to about three places before we found a bed for the night.   In these areas the hotels and motels are all taken up with workers that are on the road and you got to be  in early to get a room. We were lucky.
